Whit Whitfield, the
owner and only inspector of Mid-Virginia Home Inspection, in
Madison County, Virginia, is a member of the Society
of Professional Real Estate Inspectors, American
Society of Home Inspectors. He is also a member of the
Virginia Association of Real Estate Inspectors.
Mr. Whitfield retired
in 1993 from a career in public education, and having acted as
general contractor in the building of his own house in 1985,
decided to enter the home inspection field. He trained with a
well established company in Northern Virginia for nearly a year
and in 1994 opened for business.
In 1995 a devastating
flood hit the mountainous sections of Madison County and Mr.
Whitfield acted as the volunteer coordinator for the Madison
Flood Recovery Committee, performing on-site inspections of
damaged properties and supervising volunteer teams in the repair
and rebuilding process. In the fall of the next year a hurricane
caused similar damage with the need for more rebuilding.
In 1996/97 Mr.
Whitfield served on the executive board of Madison Habitat for
Humanity and served as co-site supervisor for its first building
project. He still volunteers for Madison Habitat each year. He
has formed a volunteer group of men and women, under the
auspices of MESA ( Madison Emergency Services Association), to
help poor families in Madison who are unable to afford needed
repairs to their homes. A portion of your inspection fee is
given to both of these organizations. These activities plus his
continuing education with SPREI and ASHI keep him up to date
with changes occurring in the building industry. Mr. Whitfield is
certified by the State of Virginia-certification #3380000069.
Mid-Virginia's home inspection
business has grown every year. We inspect very old homes ( the
earliest was 1740), newer homes and homes under construction. A
great deal of our business comes from referrals from satisfied
customers all over the region. (See customer comments). As a
bonus, as long as you own the home we inspect, you get free
phone consultation which may include questions about re-roofing;
new plumbing or the most efficient type of central heating
appliance.
